Samantha Hatchins memoir will provide an inside look into their relationship, as well as into the now immortalized missing teen.
Many have published their thoughts on him; only this writer knew him.
Samantha Hatchins, the close companion of Archie Klatos, announced this morning the publishing of the first comprehensive book on the subject of the missing teen. When asked in regards to her motivation, she referenced her frustration with many of the outside observers: "I want there to be an authority on the subject who actually knew the subject. I just feel there's so little discussion from people who experienced him firsthand. There's so little presented about him from people who knew what was true about him. With all the requests to interview me for documentaries about him, the time just seemed right for a reflection and a closure."
“I want there to be an authority on the subject who actually knew the subject.”
Hatchins has stated firmly that she wants this to focus less on the disappearance and its aftermath, and more on Klatos and their relationship: "I feel like talking about him going missing doesn't really capture the loss I felt; I decided as a prologue/epilogue bookend his disappearance served as a nice framing device, but I more wanted to capture the emotional history of our relationship. I thought I'd lead up to the events immediately prior, then not go any further. The book isn't about that, it's about a person."
After many have commemorated the anniversary of his disappearance, it seems like a bittersweet note is perhaps a more respectful closure to this sad tragedy than further aggrandizing it; after what his family and loved ones have been through, they deserve a chance to remember the best of times with him.
Not just the most media captivating worst of times.
